Institute of Current World Affairs Fellowship (ICWA)

Funding: No fixed stipend figure; ICWA provides complete financial support for living expenses (fellow and accompanying immediate family), varying by location/cost of living; fellows expected to live and spend modestly. Who can apply: Under 36 at LOI submission; must have completed current phase of formal education (current undergrads not eligible); US citizenship not required but must show strong, credible ties to US society; excellent English plus adequate target-country language ability required. Length: Two years. Two years of self-designed, independent overseas research/writing with no institutional obligations beyond producing monthly public dispatches; final decisions made mid-November, selected fellows depart within six months.
