SPA/Robert Lemelson Foundation Fellowship Program

Funding: Typically $3,000-$6,000 depending on need; larger requests unlikely to be granted. Who can apply: Currently enrolled graduate students, no citizenship restriction; no more than four years of graduate education completed; current SPA/AAA members as of the application deadline; research must fall within psychological anthropology, broadly defined (not limited to anthropology departments). Length: Summer research period prior to the fall academic term following the award. None beyond the award itself; fellows are required to attend the AAA annual meeting (travel/attendance obligation, not necessarily funded separately). Field: Psychological anthropology, pre-dissertation planning research. Deadline: Annual; 2026 cycle deadline was January 15, 2026 (closed); recurring annual cycle.
