About this listing
This workshop seeks to reassess the largely overlooked history and contributions of women travellers in the ancient Greek world during the 18th and 19th centuries. While scholarship has traditionally focused either on male travellers or on women travelling to more distant and “exotic” regions, women’s experiences and intellectual contributions in Greece have received comparatively little attention. The workshop aims to examine women’s journeys, networks, writings, artistic and scientific productions, and involvement in fields such as archaeology, geography, botany, and history. It also explores how gender shaped perceptions of travel, cultural otherness, and identity, while highlighting both foreign and Greek women as active participants in the production and preservation of knowledge about the ancient Greek world. Appel à contribution, Athènes (31300).
